French Media – Europe’s support to Ukraine

Last night on FRANCE 24 (representing OPEWI colors) to discuss the Paris donor conference for Ukraine. Couple of ideas shared:

1/ Ukraine needs €40 Billion every year from international sponsors. €20 Billion/yr used to come from the US but as that sum is not guaranteed anymore, Macron pushed Europe to bridge part of the gap as of 2024, anticipating the worst.

2/ Certain statements by President Macron (“sending troops in Ukraine”…) should be seen as one step further towards the « Europeanisation of NATO » which will animate defence debates this next decade. As America’s focus is changing, Europe should progressively take the lead of NATO activities and buildings. The US elections of November will set the pace but the direction is already known.
